Joyeux Sans Frontieres

I’ll end my week of acrostic poems with this plaintive plea for a pleasant world where you can wander wherever you like with no need of a Passport.

P ersons unlucky enough to be born in
A failed state will continue to be viewed with
S uspicion bordering on contempt until
S uch time as more successful
P owers are mature enough to stop
O perating proxy wars and start enforcing the
R ule of international morality.
T ime heals. Customs posts become viewing hides in nature reserves.

  1. I love the idea that the bird hides at the Attenborough Nature Centre were once customs posts. It gives me a whole new perspective on borders. Incidentally, it always seems to rain when I go there. Then again I’ve only been two or three times. Perhaps I should go more often – it’s only about 15 miles from where I live.

    1. Thank you. Got the phrase from Bob Marley’s song ‘War’ which used a speech by Haile Selassie:

“…until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned … until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation … until the colour of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes … until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race … until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained …”
